Clause types
What is the difference between Clauses A, B and C?
Cargo insurance policies are usually issued under one of three standard clauses.
| Clause | Scope of cover | Suitable for |
|---|---|---|
| A | Widest cover; all risks except those specifically excluded | High-value or sensitive goods |
| B | Named risks, including major accidents, fire and seawater damage | General cargo |
| C | Narrowest cover; major accidents only, such as sinking, fire and collision | Low-risk goods |
Insured value
How is the insured value determined?
The insured value is usually the CIF value of the goods (goods price, freight and insurance) plus 10 percent, so that incidental costs are covered too.
| Item | Amount |
|---|---|
| CIF value of goods | USD 10,000 |
| 10% added | USD 1,000 |
| Insured value | USD 11,000 |
The premium is a percentage of the insured value and is quoted when you request a quote.
