General Average
General average is an old principle of maritime law under which, if part of the cargo or the vessel is deliberately sacrificed, or extraordinary expenses are incurred, to save the ship and its cargo in a time of danger, all cargo owners and the shipowner share the loss in proportion to the value of their interests. Owners of uninsured cargo may not be able to take delivery of their goods until they pay their share.
This term applies to Sivan's Cargo insurance service.
